Ron Beadle is the Liberal Democrats Spokesman for the Newcastle North constituency where he stood as our candidate at the General Election in 2005. An academic at Northumbria University, Ron has worked in Newcastle for 18 years having returned to the North East where his paternal roots can be traced back to the early 1700s. Ron was brought up in London and educated at Westminster City School and the London School of Economics. He has published books and papers for the Social Market Foundation and for a range of academic journals specialising in issues of pay, public sector management and workplace ethics. Ron has been Councillor for Low Fell in Gateshead since 1996. He is married to Shakun and they have two children, Roshan and Sophia. Greg Stone is the Liberal Democrat spokesman for the Newcastle East constituency. Greg has been a Dene ward (1998-2004) and North Heaton ward councillor (2004-) for the past ten years and is also the Parliamentary Spokesman for Newcastle East constituency. Greg was born and brought up in York, but has lived in Newcastle all his adut life, and is a graduate of Newcastle University. Greg is 34 and lives in central Newcastle. He works as the head of the northern office for a regeneration consultation company, and has previously worked as funding & strategy manager for the Virtual Reality Centre, a university technology spin-out business, and as a consultant for a multi-disciplinary sustainable regeneration consultancy. Between 2004 and 2006 Greg was the executive member for Regeneration and Transport on the city council, leading several major regeneration initiatives including the Science City Brewery site development, Walker Riverside, and the expansion of Eldon Square. Greg is also a member of the Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Authority and vice char of the LGA Urban Commission. He is a director of Newcastle Futures, a project which has helped more than 700 people into work in the city since it was set up in 2006, and a local printing company. Gareth is an Ouseburn Ward councillor (first elected 2004, re-elected 2006), and is also the Parliamentary Spokesman for Newcastle Central constituency. Gareth was born and brought up in Northern Ireland, before moving to England. He has lived in the North East for the last eight years. He works as an environmental consultant. Gareth previously worked for the Ministry of Defence Procurement Executive (1989-1996), various positions from student engineer to project officer; Murmansk Pedagogical Institute, Russia (early 1997) - English Language Teaching; British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (late 1997) - Voluntary Officer; Engineering Design Centre, Newcastle University (1998-2000) - Research Associate, University of Teesside (2000-2006) - Manager of an environmental research and consultancy centre. Gareth is interested in music (including writing and recording own tracks), environmental issues, cycling (volunteer Ranger for Sustrans), travelling, hiking, photography. He has travelled by train from London to Beijing (in two chunks). He took part in a student expedition to Ecuador in 1993 which discovered four unknown species of butterfly.
