Nick Clegg MP new leader of the Liberal Democrats

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg will be visiting Newcastle East on Thursday and will be visiting residents of the Coast Road area who are benefiting from the Newcastle Warm Zone project to improve energy efficiency and reduce bills.

Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone said "I am delighted Nick Clegg will be visiting the constituency and supporting local efforts to cut fuel poverty and invest in greener energy. The Lib Dems want to see a 'green recovery plan' boosting the economy and employment by scrapping Labour's ineffective VAT gimmick and using it to invest in new jobs in fields like boosting energy efficiency in every home in the country."

"Many constituents have told me of their concern about rising energy bills, yet Labour's local MP voted against the cross party fuel poverty bill in Parliament at the same time as claiming £3500 from the taxpayer for a new boiler!"
