Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone has called on the Government to resist the temptation of making "a quick buck" by selling Northern Rock to a private sector buyer without requiring safeguards for NR jobs in the North East.

Lib Dem spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone has tonight proposed a motion at the meeting of Newcastle City Council calling on the council to submit a formal response to the Government's consultation on introducing new planning powers for houses of multiple occupation. This follows a long Lib Dem campaign for more powers to allow the local authority to be able to require conversions of family homes into rented sector houses of multiple occupation.

Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone has expressed concern at the news that the Labour government has effectively suspended any further recruitment to its New Deal programmes. No new recruitment will now take place to the Government's flagship employment initiative until later in the autumn, although there are fears that this could be further delayed.

Newcastle East Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman Greg Stone has criticised the Labour Government for backing down on changes to building regulations which would require homes undergoing significant refurbishment or renovation to include measures to improve insulation and energy efficiency.
